The Lush Trials

Hey dolls, Sarah here again, with some LUSH skincare reviews :) Enjoy!

LUSH is one of our all time favourite skin care brands, and we can't say enough good words about them! They have great stores, loads of testers and samples, friendly staff, products that really show results, and are animal cruelty free - what's there not to like?

Well, if like us, you live in Australia - then LUSH aren't the cheapest beauty products you can buy. They ARE however, the best. But how are you supposed to know what works and what doesn't? It's too expensive to try every product, we get it! What's to stop you simply buying another drugstore cleanser or moisturiser that simply 'gets the job done'? I've reviewed a bunch of products for you so that you don't have to trial allllll of them yourself before finding one that suits you perfectly.

I lived in the UK for a year and a half, where LUSH originates, which means that it's much cheaper to buy there! For a product that costs around $18 AUD, in the UK costs around £6 - so I went crazy in there, trying everything that interested me - so here's my reviews of the products I've tried!

Herbalism (Facial Cleanser) $16.95 / 100g
This facial cleanser is a staple of mine, that I have repurchased countless times. It's refreshing, also moisturising, and doesn't leave your skin tight after use. It comes in a tub and is a crumbly putty like consistency which you pinch a tiny bit of, and mix with water, rubbing together on your hands to turn it into a more spreadable and workable consistency before using on your face.

Herbalism contains ground almonds which helps to exfoliate, while restoring and reviving the skin, keeping if from feeling tight, with Rosemary. It contains nettle powder which purges dirt - which was a big selling point for me! It is hard to find products that feel like they have really gone beyond the surface, which is why I always feel so fresh after using this product!

I frequently alternate between this, and St Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub.

Ocean Salt (Facial Scrub) $22.50 / 120g

This is a product that I really love, but would not repurchase frequently. It contains rocks of ocean salt (surprise) which are very exfoliating, and work wonders in healing processes (I always heal my piercings with salt).

Be cautious when using though, because of the large size of the sea salt rocks if you scrub too hard, this product can scratch your skin, or open up blemishes which will sting because the product also contains citrus juices! (This is not the products fault! You just have to trust its exfoliating abilities, and rub gently!)

Cosmetic Warrior (Fresh Face Mask) $16.95 / 75g

This is a product that I have repurchased many times, and will continue to repurchase! It's not the best smelling product in the world, but if you can get past that - this REALLY works! If you  have trouble skin and want to calm your face, then this is your product. Especially for active spots. After a few uses of this product you can notice the difference in your face. If you suffer from acne, it can help reduce swelling and redness (so it's a great facemask to do before makeup application), and otherwise, it's just a brilliant weekly facemask to keep any blemishes at bay!

Dark Angels (Facial Cleanser) $16.95 / 100g

Both Adriana and I tried and this product, and unfortunately it hasn't made the cut for either of us. This cleanser is specifically aimed at those with oily skin, as it contains charcoal to absorb oils but also contains glycerine to 'keep the moisture in' after the oils have been absorbed. This is probably why it didn't work for us, because we didn't have an oily skin issue, but we thought it might help to avoid the shiny face issue when wearing makeup! This was not the case :(

It made our faces very, very oily. Probably because there wasn't much oil to absorb in the first place, so the glycerine moisturising component of the product overcompensated.

We wouldn't recommend this product unless you really struggle with oily skin!

Love Lettuce (Fresh Face Mask) $16.95 / 75g

You know those days when you just feel a bit dull? Maybe you slept in your makeup, or maybe it's just really humid. Whatever the reason, Love Lettuce will be your holy grail. It doesn't specifically target any skin condition, it simply gently exfoliates your skin to make it feel smooth, soft and glowy. You will really notice the radiance and softness in your face :)

It contains almond shell to polish your skin, and almond oil to soften and replenish it, plus lavender and a few other goodies to make you feel super fresh! I love this mask, and have / will continue to repurchase it :)!

Vanishing Cream (Facial Moisturiser) $39.95 /45g

This is my personal favourite moisturiser (ever), especially for a light day time moisturiser that can be used under makeup. It is designed for problem skin, and is low fat, meaning that it's very light. It also contains shea butter, linseed and jojoba oils which are all known for their softening effects. It moisturises well while taking almost no time to sink in (which also makes it an awesome under makeup moisturiser)!

I would say that if you are happy with your skin care regime, and simply need hydration, nothing special - then this is your product. If you're looking for something that combats the issues associated with skin types (oily, dry, combination) then read on for my Imperialis review!

Imperialis (Facial Moisturiser) $33.95 / 45g

This moisturiser is heavier than Vanishing Cream but can in no way be described as "heavy". It's main ingredient is lavender which is great because it caters to both dry and oily skin types for this reason: Lavender has a balancing effect on sebum production, meaning that it encourages dry skin to produce the natural oils it requires to be healthy and moisturised, and it discourages oily skin from overdoing the sebum production (which is the cause of oiliness), and tones it down. Obviously combination skins would also benefit from this balancing effect.

This product contains a bunch of awesome ingredients that you can read about on the LUSH website, to help you make a decision, but because of the well rounded nature of this moisturiser it's a sure winner, and a great starting point, if you're not 100% sure what type of moisturiser is best for your skin yet :)

Catastrophe Cosmetic (Fresh Face Mask) $16.95 / 75g

This facemask is made mainly from blueberries, which we all know are a superfood, rich in antioxidants and goodness - but that doesn't seem to translate for me with this product. I would not repurchase and it mainly comes down to the texture of the product. It's wet, but somehow chalky, and applies fine on your face, but for some reason whenever I wash this off it doesn't feel entirely off. Every time I tried to use this product I felt the need to wash my face after using it, because my face felt like it had a strange residue on it although I had rinsed the mask off thoroughly.

Maybe it will work for others, but from personal experience, since this mask doesn't specifically target any problem area, if you are looking to buy a face mask, I would definitely stick with Love Lettuce!
