How to: Pastel Purple Hair (With Pictures)

Hey dolls, Sarah here :)

Just going to do a quick post about how I dye my hair pastel colours. I've been doing it for years now, and since it seems to be getting more and more popular, I thought this may be useful for some of you!

I most always dye my hair a light purple, lilac colour, which is especially good because as you probably know, the colour purple is a toning colour for yellowy gold in your hair, which I try to avoid at all costs. I like my hair to be silvery/white/pastel at all times! Dying your hair a light purple also means that it will always fade out to white / silver, meaning if you get sick of it, it doesn't stick around forever, and it's an awesome toner! So a light purple colour is what I'm going to show you :)

Obviously starting with light blonde hair / white or silver hair is ideal.

This is what my hair looked like to start with:

What you will need:

  • A highly pigmented hair colour, (I use Fudge's Paintbox colour Purple Haze) A bright purple colour. I also add a tiny bit of Schwarzkopf's Nordic Blonde Toner  just to make the purple a little paler, and not so vivid. Most people would just use one colour though. Up to you!
  • A conditioner to lighten the colour - doesn't matter which conditioner, as long as it's white
  • An applicator brush
  • A comb to even out the hair colour once it's in
  • A bowl to mix your colour in
  • Hair detangler (optional)

You can get all of these things from Priceline!

Step 1: Wet, and towel dry your hair

Step 2: Spray with detangler and comb hair (I use detangler so that my hair doesn't break when I'm combing it)

If you comb your hair through, before applying your colour it will make sectioning your hair a lot easier which means you won't risk missing spots!

Step 3: Mix your hair colour

Mix your hair conditioner (preferably white or a light coloured conditioner, so that you know exactly what colour you're making) and your pigmented hair dye until it is the colour that you want your hair to be.

Squirt enough conditioner to cover your whole head into the bowl, and then add a tiny drop of colour and mix. Continue to add small drops, so that your colour gradually darkens. This way you won't over do it with the colour and end up with bright purple hair rather than pastel :)

Don't worry however, if your colour is a little too dark, you can just add a little more conditioner to lighten it again!

This is what my mix looked like

Step 4: Apply over your entire head.

I part my hair in the middle beginning at the top of my head, and then work my way downwards separating in chunks, making sure the colour is well worked in so that it coats all of the hair.

Step 5: Comb the colour through

Once all of my hair has colour in it, I then take my comb and starting at the bottom of my hair, so as not to rip it - I comb my hair like I did when it was towel dried. This will spread the colour more evenly, and also make it easier to see the colour developing so you know when it's time to wash it out.

I know this colour looks pretty dark, but it turns out much lighter when it dries, so don't stress!

Step 6: Wash out and style :)

Here's my result (I'm wearing extensions which I dyed as well)

Hope this helps some of you dolls out!
